The Carlos Blanco Aguinaga Third World Studies program documents, originally conceived in Third College (now Thurgood Marshall College), contains planning committee documents collected by UCSD literature professor Carlos Blanco Aguinaga. The materials, including syllabi, curriculum notes, correspondence, and administrative meeting minutes, represent the preliminary planning period between 1969-1978. A large majority of the files relate to the first Third World Studies course facilitated in Fall 1970.

The Third World Studies Program was established and organized in 1969 in Third College, which is now named Thurgood Marschall College. The program was constructed to respresent a curriculum recognizing marginalized peoples' histories and the bridge the gap between campus and community by emphasizing community service leadership.
