A large majority of the files relate to the first Third World Studies course facilitated in Fall 1970.

The Third World Studies Program was established and organized in 1969 in Third College, which is now named Thurgood Marschall College. The program was constructed to respresent a curriculum recognizing marginalized peoples' histories and the bridge the gap between campus and community by emphasizing community service leadership.
